From 29 November to 2 December 2019, SESAME opened its doors for the annual User Meeting, bringing together over 80 scientists from the Middle East and further afield. This year, BEATS took to the stage just 11 months into the project with much enthusiasm from the users. The magnanimous support from the user community was felt through the applause received after the presentations on the status and beamline design, auguring well for future applications for beamtime.
Axel Kaprolat, BEATS Project Coordinator, gave an update on the status of the project almost one year after kick-off, with details of the source, the writing of the technical design report (read the dedicated article) as well as the different actions undertaken in 2019 to capture the attention of the future users of the beamline.

Alexander Rack, tomography expert for BEATS, presented the beamline design and some examples of experiments that could be carried out with the current parameters.
